In Brief: Discover Plans Service for Handheld Devices

Discover Brokerage said it plans to launch this spring a securities service delivered to handheld personal digital assistants.

The Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. unit said it will utilize a real- time trading system designed by Aether Technologies to reach customers using Palm Computing or Windows CE operating systems. They will be able to conduct trades, track accounts, and obtain real-time quotes from all U.S. equity and options exchanges.

"Discover Brokerage continually explores innovative technology solutions" and expects to be first in this category, said Tom O'Connell, executive vice president and director of information technology and operations. "Aether's track record as a leader in wireless software services and their financial industry expertise made this the best solution."
