In Brief: Colonial of Ala. Using Home Financial Network

Colonial Bank of Alabama has launched an on-line banking and bill payment service based on software from Home Financial Network, Westport, Conn.

The rollout involves switching customers from VIPC, the software of the defunct Visa Interactive program, which is not year-2000 compliant. The owner of VIPC, Integrion Financial Network, is phasing out the software and recommending Home Financial's Home ATM instead.

Colonial Bank, part of the Colonial BancGroup that operates more than 250 offices in the South, is the first to make the switch, said Thomas S. Dittrich, vice president of marketing at Home Financial.

Fifteen banks are live with Home Financial's software, Mr. Dittrich said, and the company is in discussions with others, including current users of VIPC.
