3 More Nonbanks Apply for Thrift Charters

Three more nonbanks have asked the Office of Thrift Supervision for charters.

Bingham Financial Services Corp. of Birmingham, Mich., wants to open Bingham Bank, a full-service savings bank in Southfield, Mich. Bingham Financial finances the manufactured-housing industry.

The Illinois Agricultural Association of Bloomington wants to convert its state-chartered trust company to Country Trust Bank, a federal savings bank.

Access Global Financial Corp. of Chicago wants to charter Bank Global, an Internet thrift.

Separately, Unified Financial Services, a broker-dealer in Indianapolis, refiled its application to charter a thrift. Regulators rejected the company's original application because it failed to explain how the thrift would comply with the Community Reinvestment Act.

As of Friday, the OTS was considering applications from 47 nonbanking firms including 28 insurance companies, eight securities firms, and four manufacturers.
