Card Briefs: Honor and Star Close Deal, Name Top Execs

Honor Technologies Inc. and Star System Inc. announced the completion of their merger.

The combined company is known as H&S Holding Co. No changes in Honor and Star branding, signs, or operations were announced as a result of the deal, which closed March 1.

H&S is the largest of the regional electronic funds transfer networks, with 3,700 financial institutions, 79 million debit card holders, 70,000 automated teller machines, and 400,000 point of sale locations.

The combined company says it expects to process an average of 185 million transactions a month.

H&S formed a transition team with James McCarthy leading its western division, E. Miles Kilburn as chief financial officer, Robert A. Hunter chief operating officer for the eastern division, and Thomas McHugh chief technology officer. Rounding out the transition team are Nikki Waters, Mary McDuffie, Curtis Fish, and Paul Schmelzer.

Ronald V. Congemi, who was president of Star System in San Diego, is president and chief executive officer of H&S, based in Maitland. Thomas O. Bennion, the president and CEO of Honor, has retired but remains a vice chairman.
