CNB Inc Names Executive

CNB Inc. in Lake City, Fla., has hired Bennett Brown as its executive vice president and as president and chief operating officer of its CNB National Bank.

Mr. Brown was the Jacksonville city president of Compass Bank, a subsidiary of Compass Bancshares in Birmingham, Ala. He came to Compass in 1997 when it bought Enterprise National Bank of Jacksonville; Mr. Brown had formed Enterprise 10 years earlier and was its president and chief executive officer.

At $312 million-asset CNB he succeeded Corey J. Coughlin, who resigned March 5. Mr. Coughlin told The Florida Times-Union he left because the company would not let him work out of Jacksonville, as previously agreed. Before joining CNB, Mr. Coughlin was president and chief executive of Jacksonville-based SouthTrust Bank of Northeast Florida.

CNB Inc. completed its initial public offering at the end of January. K.C. Trowell remains chairman and chief executive officer of company and the bank.
