American Bancshares Names Executive

SOUTHEAST

American Bancshares of Bradenton, Fla., has named Jerry L. Neff as interim president and chief executive officer of its American Bank.

He will be considered as a permanent successor to Gerald L. Anthony in those jobs, the company said. Mr. Anthony relinquished them Feb. 16 but remains president and CEO of the $456 million-asset parent company.

Mr. Neff was the bank's branch administrator, running its 10 branches and responsible for branch site selection and construction.

He came to American in 1997 from Barnett Bank, where he was market executive for Manatee County and, earlier, retail executive for the county. He had come to Barnett in 1993 when it bought his employer, First Florida Bank, of which he had been Manatee County president.
