French Card Firm Sets U.S. Training

Oberthur Smart Cards of France said it invited software developers, system integrators, and other potential alliance partners to the first U.S. training session on its Host operating system.

Host is an open development platform for multiple applications and secure loading on cards. Oberthur says that in contrast to Java programming, Host generates a compact code that provides very fast response times.

Host applications run on many international standards and specifications, including EMV, ISO, and B0. "Companies that develop smart card applications have been looking for an open platform that provides the flexibility to securely handle multiple applications on the same card," said David Mooney, vice president of the advanced technology group at Oberthur Smart Cards USA. "We believe our partners will find significant benefits in using Host to develop their smart card applications."

Oberthur's U.S. division, formerly Kirk Plastic, has completed its move to a new 106,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Los Angeles, with the capacity to produce more than 200 million cards annually.
