In Brief: Cendant to Plug Class On Cultural Diversity

A cultural diversity course developed by the National Association of Realtors is to be promoted nationwide in Cendant Corp.'s real estate division, which includes Century 21, Coldwell Banker, and ERA franchises systems.

The program was developed last year by the Realtors association and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to promote minority homeownership.

According to the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, the 28% minority population in the United States will grow to one-third of the total population by 2010.

About 1,000 of the Realtors group's 730,000 members have completed the course, and about 200 are ready to teach it.

Cendant's real estate division has 12,000 offices and more than 200,000 real estate agents.

The certification program is not mandatory. Agents who have been found by a court to have violated the fair-housing law will not be eligible to get a certificate.
