In Brief: Citigroup Names Citi Veteran Vice Chairman

Citigroup's board of directors said Tuesday they have appointed William R. Rhodes as vice chairman.

Mr. Rhodes, who was already vice chairman of Citibank and Citicorp, joins two others in that spot at the holding company level.

Paul J. Collins, 62, a Citicorp vice chairman who is leading the merger integration, is also a Citigroup vice chairman overseeing audit and investment functions.

Deryck C. Maughan, 51, the former head of Salomon Smith Barney, was named vice chairman for strategy development in November during a management shake-up that included the ouster of Citigroup's president, James Dimon.

Mr. Rhodes, 63, joined Citibank in 1957. His career at the bank has largely focused on emerging markets, including stints from 1980 to 1984 as senior corporate officer for Latin America and the Caribbean and from 1986 to 1990 as chairman of the bank's restructuring committee.

Among his current duties, Mr. Rhodes appoints Citigroup's senior country officers and is the company's senior officer on risk management and credit.

He will continue to be vice chairman and senior international officer of the Citibank unit, responsible for the corporate bank's client relationships in emerging markets worldwide and relationships with governments and other official institutions.
