BT Spinoff Is Offering Risk Management Software

IQ Financial Systems, a one-year-old spinoff of Bankers Trust Corp., has introduced Windows NT-based risk management software.

Desktop Risk IQ is designed to serve the needs of small-to-mid-size banks that cannot support or do not need more costly, enterprisewide risk management software, said Michelle McCarthy, risk product manager at IQ Financial.

The software, adapted from some used at Bankers Trust, measures portfolio risk in real time and offers pre-trade risk analytics. A large European institution is negotiating to buy the software, Ms. McCarthy said.

Meridien Research of Cambridge, Mass., predicted in November that software like Desktop Risk IQ, which calculates real-time risk at the trading desk level, will become increasingly popular during the next three years.

IQ Financial also said it would install SimIQ, software for simulating risk, at its first client site in April. The Asian-based customer, which IQ Financial declined to identify, will install SimIQ at several offices worldwide.
