Card Briefs: MBNA, Net Portal FirmSign Marketing Deal

MBNA Corp. has signed a marketing deal with Infoseek Corp., operator of an Internet portal called Go Network.

MBNA will issue an affinity card to users of the Go Network, which was started in January, and will pay Infoseek at least $85 million over five years to advertise on the network's sites, the companies said.

Participating Go Network sites include Go.com, Infoseek.com, ABCnews.com, ESPN.com, Mr-showbiz.com, Wallofsound.com, NFL.com, and Nascar Online.

More than 22 million people use these sites, according to Infoseek of Sunnyvale, Calif.

Infoseek "represents the right partner with the right business model for MBNA's affinity marketing strategy," said John R. Cochran, MBNA's chief marketing officer. "This agreement allows us to align with a premier Internet network that leverages some of the most recognizable brands in the world."

Mr. Cochran said the two companies plan to collaborate on "innovative products and services" and on "integrating and developing future Internet capabilities and strategies."
