Tech Bytes: System Phones Customers with a Message

International Teledata Group is introducing a voice broadcasting system, Ventriloquest, as a tool for managing customer relationships.

The system delivers recorded messages to large audiences over the telephone. Each call originated by the system can be personalized. Marketing manager Greg White said Ventriloquest brings an "emotional aspect" to remote and self-service banking.

Banks may use Ventriloquest to alert customers to new products, services, and direct mail campaigns, or as a follow-up thank you for their patronage. The system works interactively, so that a person receiving such a call may request a live customer service representative after listening to the Ventriloquest message.

At a cost of 30 cents a message, Ventriloquest is marketed as a cheaper alternative to live phone calls, faxes, or direct mail.
