Short Takes: Republic N.Y. Hires 2 from Chase in Asia

Republic New York Corp. has hired two private bankers from Chase Manhattan Corp. in Hong Kong.

Helena Koo and Vivien Webb joined Republic New York on Monday to set up a team of 10 private bankers in a "premier clients group" to focus on affluent families in Asia, the banking company said.

"We are fortunate to have the active support of one of Asia's foremost private banking teams as we build upon our existing Asian private banking business" Rodney Wood, a Republic vice chairman and regional general manager for Asia, said in a statement.

Ms. Koo was a Chase managing director and deputy Asia executive for private banking. Ms. Webb was a managing director and team leader.

Republic and Luxembourg-based Safra Republic Holdings-of which the New York company owns a 49% stake-manage $56 billion of private banking assets.
