In Brief: Lenders' Trade Group Picks Its First Leader

Gerald L. Friedman, chairman of Amerin Corp., has been chosen to head a trade group being formed among mortgage companies that oppose Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's ventures into mortgage insurance and other lines of business, sources said.

The still-unnamed trade group has made no official statement and is said to be shopping for a Washington law firm to represent it. Mr. Friedman could not be reached, and Amerin declined to comment.

Mr. Friedman founded Amerin Corp., parent of the mortgage insurance company Amerin Guarantee, in 1992. The firm agreed in November to sell itself to Commonwealth Mortgage Insurance Corp.
