Cards Briefs: First USA in Ad Deal With Music Web Site

Bank One Corp.'s First USA credit card division has signed a marketing agreement with the on-line music retailer CDnow Inc.

The alliance gives Wilmington, Del.-based First USA exclusive advertising rights on CDnow's site for an undisclosed number of years.

The companies would not release the value of their deal but said CDnow could make more than $8 million, depending on the number of credit card accounts generated from its site.

"Partnerships between financial institutions and Internet retailers are key to addressing consumer concerns regarding the security of shopping on- line and will extend the mass market's acceptance of the Internet as a sales channel," said Jason Olim, president and chief executive officer of CDnow.
