Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP, a San Francisco law firm, has hired Bank of America's Andrew Schwartz to be special counsel in its litigation practice.

He had been an in-house counsel at Bank of America for 15 years, leading its defense in a major case that alleged unclaimed bond funds were being held by the bank's corporate trust division. The case was settled as an accounting problem-for $187.5 million-last November.

Mr. Schwartz also directed corporate investigations and has managed corporate derivative suits. He has 24 years' experience in commercial litigation.

He joined Bank of America in 1984 from Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May in Oakland, Calif., and before that worked at Mackenzie Smith Lewis Michell & Hughes LLP in Syracuse, N.Y. He has also worked on contract litigation at the Commerce Department in Washington.
