Tech Bytes: Wachovia's Tech Chief to Retire Next Year

Walter E. Leonard, senior executive vice president of Wachovia Corp.'s Wachovia Operational Services, has announced that he will retire in February 2000.

Mr. Leonard, a Durham, N.C., native, joined Wachovia in 1965 and has held several positions in the company's operations division. He has been the technology and operations chief since 1988.

Jean E. Davis, who joined Wachovia in 1985, will succeed Mr. Leonard. She is currently executive vice president for human resources. Her previous roles at the company include corporate accounts officer and regional executive for Piedmont Triad.

Mr. Leonard has served as chairman of the American Bankers Association's Transaction Processing Committee and the Fifth Federal Reserve District Operations Advisory Committee. He is currently a member of the Bankers Roundtable.
