Card Briefs: Visa Says Its Cards Are No. 1 Choice for Travel

Visa products are being used for international travel and entertainment more than any other payment card, according to a study by WEFA, the firm formerly known as Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates.

The Visa-sponsored study found that in 1997 travelers used Visa cards to buy more than $120 billion of travel and entertainment services worldwide, or 38% of all such spending. American Express had a 31% share.

Visa was the leading payment card for lodging, air travel, cruises, and auto rentals worldwide, the study found.

The findings were based on information from government agencies, industry trade associations, and private sources.
