Tech Bytes: British Bank Stays with IBM for ATM Service

Co-operative Bank has renewed a contract for IBM Global Services to be its automated teller machine servicer.

IBM will support 260 ATMs with network management, call center support, software development, and installation and maintenance services. The seven- year, $160 million pact is IBM's largest for ATM outsourcing.

The agreement also includes 360 new ATMs to be installed at shops owned by Co-operative Retail Society, the bank's parent.

To reduce costs, IBM will use satellite communications for the first time in a U.K. ATM system.

IBM expects to bring its ATM outsourcing service to Canada, Singapore, Brazil, and the United States, said Jerry Hall, an executive at IBM Global Services.
