In Brief: Pa. Thrift, Amazon.com In a CD/CD Promotion

A Pennsylvania thrift company has a deal to link its Web site to a popular on-line bookseller.

USABancShares soon will offer books, music, and videos to on-line customers through Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc.

The partnership, called "CD2," is to offer free compact discs and other products to people who buy certificates of deposit through the thrift's Web site, www.usabanc.com.

USABancShares, parent of $192 million-asset BankPhiladelphia, begins auctioning certificates of deposit to customers at the site this week.

Kenneth L. Tepper, president and chief executive officer of USABancShares, said the partnership "accelerates our evolution into an entirely Internet-based bank."

The partnership is to begin May 10.
