Women Job Candidates Making Strides in Technology

Women are making headway in the world of information technology, according to a leading executive recruitment firm.

Christian & Timbers said its placement of women in information technology jobs has jumped markedly this year.

The Cleveland firm said women made up 18% of its total placements in information technology posts during the first quarter.

For all of last year, women got 11% of the information technology jobs that Christian & Timbers was hired to fill.

Vici Wayne, a managing director in the firm's San Francisco office, said the faster hiring pace for women stems from a growing willingness by information technology employers to create better gender balance on their staffs.

"People actually want to hire women because they know they don't have enough," she said. "There is an open door for the well-qualified woman."
