Wachovia Taps Presidents for Its Operations In Georgia, Fla.

Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, N.C., has promoted Isaiah Tidwell to president of its Georgia market and J. Kenneth Coppedge to president in Florida.

Both Mr. Tidwell, who will relocate to Atlanta, and Mr. Coppedge, who will move to Tampa, are to begin their new jobs in June.

Mr. Tidwell succeeds D. Gary Thompson, who remains Wachovia's chief executive officer for banking operations in Georgia and Florida. Mr. Tidwell, an executive vice president, is currently the regional executive for southern North Carolina, a post he has held since 1993.

His responsibilities include Charlotte, where he lives, and the western part of North Carolina. Mr. Tidwell joined Wachovia in 1972 and later became the Forsyth County executive based in Winston-Salem and the area executive for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Mr. Coppedge succeeds Warren S. Orlando, who plans to retire in mid- June. He is currently based in Atlanta as the division executive for regional corporate financial services.

In Florida he will oversee the company's expansion plans as well as full-service banking operations acquired last year in deals for Boca Raton- based 1st United Bancorp and American Bankshares in Hollywood, Fla. His responsibilities include corporate services offices in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, and Pensacola.
