Synovus Unit in Nordstrom, Circuit City Processing Deals

Total System Services Inc., the card processing company owned by Synovus Financial Corp., has won contracts with two large retail card clients: Nordstrom Inc. and Circuit City Stores Inc.

Nordstrom, the Seattle department store chain, already uses Total to process its Visa consumer card portfolio, which is issued by Nordstrom National Credit Bank of Englewood, Colo. Nordstrom signed a new contract for Total to process its five million private-label cards, which are managed through the same bank.

Circuit City, the electronics chain based in Richmond, Va., has renewed its contract with Total to process its private-label cards. The Circuit City credit card is issued by the company's First North American National Bank subsidiary.

Total has handled the Circuit City portfolio since 1990, making it the processor's oldest retail client.

Total's private-label card processing customers include Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Canadian Tire.
