In Brief: CIBC-Mellon Custody Venture to Expand

CIBC Mellon Global Services Co. agreed Monday to buy Bank of Montreal's $116 billion-asset global custody portfolio.

Terms of transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, were not disclosed.

CIBC Mellon Global Services is a three-year-old joint venture of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Pittsburgh-based Mellon Bank Corp. The addition of the Bank of Montreal business would boost the venture's total assets under administration to $334.7 billion. Mellon ranks among the top 10 bank providers of custody services, with a total of $2.3 trillion of assets under administration. Most of that business, however, is in the United States, a spokesman said.
