In Brief: Mellon Hires Exec to Oversee E-Commerce

Mellon Bank Corp. said Wednesday that it has named Janey A. Place executive vice president and head of electronic commerce strategy, effective immediately.

Ms. Place, 53, reports to Martin G. McGuinn, Mellon's chairman and chief executive officer. She is responsible for accelerating Mellon's electronic commerce initiatives.

Previously Ms. Place was executive vice president for Bank of America Corp.'s strategic technology group. From 1990 to 1994 she was senior vice president in charge of direct banking strategy at Wells Fargo & Co.

Ms. Place oversaw the Financial Services Technology Consortium in 1997 and 1998. She has also been associated with the Online Banking Association, the Consumer Bankers Association, and the Financial Services Roundtable's BITS Advisory Group. She is on the boards of two Internet companies, MultiNet and VideoGate.
