Louisiana Group's Chief Executive Leaving

After 17 years at the Louisiana Bankers Association, including the past seven as its chief executive, Peter Gwaltney is leaving the group.

Mr. Gwaltney, who was widely commended for his leadership in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, said Friday that he had submitted his resignation to the association's board and would start as the CEO and vice chairman of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation on Jan. 1.

The mission of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation, a Memphis nonprofit funded by donations from the banking industry, is to reduce crime at nursing homes throughout the country.

"The dust has really settled since the hurricanes," Mr. Gwaltney said in an interview Friday. "Our government relations team has done a good job working with the state, and this is really a good place for me to step off and let them reach a new cruising altitude from here."

Ginger Laurent, a senior vice president Louisiana Bankers Association and its director of administration, will be its interim CEO.
