The factory will build automated teller machines and other self-service machines for NCR clients in Brazil, the Caribbean and Latin America. The Duluth, Ga., ATM company said the facility will employ 250 people.
"Financial market institutions in Brazil are continuously looking for customized ATMs to provide a unique service to their customers, such as biometric identification, check printers and high security levels. Those demands will be totally fed by NCR's products," Elias Silva, the president of NCR Brazil, said in a press release.
The opening of the Brazil plant is NCR's latest move to build more of its ATMs in-house. The company recently relocated its headquarters from Dayton, Ohio, to Duluth, Ga., in part to be close to a new manufacturing site that opened last month in nearby Columbus, Ga.
NCR had long handled its own production, but outsourced its manufactuing in 2007 to Solectron Corp. in an effort to streamline its operations.
