The Sausalito, Calif., mobile banking software company mFoundry Inc. has added a remote deposit feature from Mitek Systems Inc. to the application it offers for Apple Inc.'s iPhone.

Mitek's ImageNet Mobile Deposit system lets people photograph checks with the cameras in certain phones and make deposits by sending the image to a bank. The San Diego vendor introduced a version of the software for the iPhone in October and announced its deal with mFoundry this week.

"By adding Mobile Deposit to our iPhone mobile banking functionality, financial institutions can save money by avoiding the paper item processing costs while at the same time offer customers convenience and save them time," Drew Sievers, mFoundry's chief executive officer and a co-founder, said in a Mitek press release.
