Gold Coast Bank in Islandia, N.Y., said Thursday that it will utilize a new security program from Applied DNA Sciences Inc. to protect against bank robberies and malicious invasions of ATMs.

The bank will install SmartDNA Sentry 500 Intruder Spray Systems at branches in East Setauket, Islandia and Huntington, N.Y. If a crime occurs, the system covers the criminal's clothing and skin with a unique botanical DNA spay. In a second part of the new program, Applied DNA's DNANet product will be used to mark stolen money.

The SmartDNA system can be armed by a panic button or incorporated into the bank's existing alarm system and can be deployed by both covert and overt configurations. The solution contains a tracer ingredient that can be read on the spot and a unique plant-derived DNA code, linking the offenders to the crime scene.

Applied DNA provides DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions.
