Zipmark announced Monday that it is partnering with online processor CardinalCommerce to build acceptance for its mobile payments platform.

The deal will extend Zipmark's reach to more than 75,000 online merchants.

Zipmark of New York lets users pay businesses or others with their mobile phones using an app that generates an electronic check. The company charges 1% per transaction, with each fee capped at $5.

"CardinalCommerce shares our goal of simplifying how businesses get paid and distribute money," says Jay Bhattacharya, Zipmark's chief executive and co-founder, in a press release. "Like Cardinal, Zipmark views the billing and operations challenges that businesses face every day as a major opportunity."

In December, Zipmark secured $2 million in funding from a group of venture capital firms and others.
