Visa (V) is donating roughly $300,000 to the American Red Cross in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which left most of New York City metropolitan area flooded and without power.

The world's largest payment network made the contribution at the same time that MasterCard (MA) and American Express (AXP) made comparable gifts.

Similar to counterparts, Visa is matching its employees' donations and waiving interchange to charities that are dedicated to providing relief for victims.

In addition, the San Francisco company is handing over revenue generated from eligible contributions to the Red Cross.
