Capital One (COF) said Thursday it will donate 60 seconds of air time to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a nonprofit group that provides communication services to active duty members of the military and veterans, whenever someone downloads Capital One's mobile banking app.
The $302 billion-asset company also will give the group 10 seconds of air time that military members can use to view their own accounts at the bank or to transact online whenever customers use the app to view their transactions, pay bills or move money.
"Every time customers do those things, we give ten seconds to Cell Phones for Soldiers," Capital One spokesman Mark Andrews told American Banker.
Capital One says it aims to donate 6 million minutes via the campaign, which is expected to end on Jan. 18.
This marks the third year that Capital One and Cell Phones for Soldiers have teamed up to translate transactions to talk time. The bank also donates one minute of talk time to the group for every mobile phone deposited in recycling bins at its branches.
Capital One's mobile banking app is available via both Apple's iTunes store and Google Play.
