Discover Financial Services will invest $10 million over the next five years to pay for high school students to take personal finance courses.

Through its new Pathway to Financial Success program, the Riverwoods, Ill., company is underwriting the Council for Economic Education’s high school financial education curriculum. It will also provide schools with financial resources and training through grants.

A recent poll by the National Endowment for Financial Education showed that 84% of high school students said they needed more instruction on financial management topics but only a dozen states require a personal finance course to graduate, Discover said Wednesday in a news release.
