Through a deal finalized this week, financial institutions will be able to run SWIFT subsidiary Arkelis NV’s messaging hub on Red Hat Inc.’s Enterprise Linux operating system.

The partnership will allow customers to manage SWIFT traffic more effectively, Red Hat said on Thursday. Customers of Arkelis’s hub can take advantage of cost savings from running a Linux-based operating system, Red Hat, based in Raleigh, N.C., said. The message hub from Arkelis was previously available with other software platforms.

“The combined Red Hat and Arkelis solution gives financial institutions the reliability and performance they absolutely require to run their mission-critical messaging applications, all with the cost-effectiveness of Linux-based solutions,” Rich Feldmann, director of financial services industry for Red Hat, said in a news release.

Arkelis, which is based in Mechelen, Belgium, provides financial messaging services while Red Hat manages open source solutions.
