Toronto-Dominion Bank is handing over the reins of its ATM fleet to Diebold Inc.

The Canadian banking company is outsourcing the management of its 4,400 ATMs to Diebold, which will monitor TD's ATMs both remotely and "on the ground" with its employees who are scattered across North America.

"We'll be providing everything from [Payment Card Industry data security standard compliance] and security protection for them, patching and malware monitoring and" other services, says Tim Witt, Diebold's senior director of integrated services, in an interview.

Diebold will use its OpteView Resolve to remotely manage the machines. The software predicts when a machine will need maintenance and guards against computer viruses.

TD Bank had been outsourcing several services, including ATM management, to Hewlett-Packard Co, according to a July, 2004 news release. Diebold was the subcontractor for the deal, a Diebold spokeswoman said.

"The partnership with Diebold came about as a result of evaluations TD does of its networks and vendors every few years," says TD spokeswoman Erin Potts, in an email.
