SWIFT has launched a research organization that will focus on transaction banking.

Research at the SWIFT Institute, which is based at the organization's headquarters near Brussels, will cover payments, clearing and settlement, cash management, trade finance and trust and securities. The institute will fund and publish independent research from academics and senior industry professionals, SWIFT said Wednesday.

The first research grants to be issued by the institute will cover internationalization of Chinese currency, financial supply chain management and banking inclusion.

SWIFT is a member-owned cooperative that provides financial messaging products and services to more than 10,000 financial institutions in over 210 countries.
