7 Ways Banks Can Use Pinterest

Financial institutions could benefit from being active on the fast-growing social media website Pinterest, Corporate Insight has found.

Pinterest relies mostly on images instead of text and incorporates different aspects of Twitter and Facebook to connect users. After examining the website, Corporate Insight said Thursday that it found seven financial themes for which companies could use Pinterest to increase their digital presence. These themes were retirement, savings and investment goals, credit card rewards, lifestyle, corporate mascots, contests and charitable giving.

Financial institutions could create interactive and image-centric retirement marketing campaigns for the site. Companies could also post photos of savings and investment goals and credit card companies could post pictures from sponsored events such as concerts and sporting events.

Financial institutions could also hold contests or sweepstakes via Pinterest to gauge public sentiment. For example, followers could vote on preferred reward items. Pinboards on the site could be created to feature philanthropy, showcase credit card rewards options and feature corporate mascots.

Corporate Insight, a user experience research firm based in New York, has been tracking financial institutions’ usage of social media since 2008.
