ING Direct Canada First in Country with Mobile Deposit

ING Direct Canada launched mobile remote deposit capture Monday. The debut marks the first deployment of mobile RDC by a Canadian bank. Some Canadian credit unions rolled out the feature in April.

The new feature, called Cheque-In, allows customers to deposit checks on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android phone, Android tablet, BlackBerry mobile devices with BB10 OS and tablets running Windows 8. NCR Software is providing the software behind the new mobile capability.

Canadian businesses and consumers write about four million checks on an average business day, according to the Canadian Payments Association.

ING Direct Canada's Chief Information Officer, Charaka Kithulegoda, won Bank Technology News's Mobile Banker of the Year award.
