Reality Show Project Runway Puts Spotlight on GoBank

Green Dot Corp.'s GoBank account is being featured on Lifetime's Project Runway.

Contestants on the fashion TV series are asked to use Green Dot's GoBank account to manage their budgets for the current television season.

"Project Runway teaches designers the skills they need to launch their own collections. Part of that is managing your business expenses," said Sharon Pope, chief marketing officer at Green Dot, in a press release. "We couldn't be more excited to help contestants spend wisely and create a winning look to build their career."

The show's switch to GoBank accounts replaces an earlier practice of providing contestants with an envelope full of cash for each challenge. Instead, contestants must manage a $4,000 budget throughout the season. Contestants are allowed to pool their funds, using the app to conduct person-to-person transfers.

Green Dot, a bank and prepaid card marketer, publicly launched its GoBank account in June with a name-your-own fee structure.
