Silicon Valley Bank to Sponsor Coding Workshops for Kids

Silicon Valley Bank is sponsoring workshops on both coasts to teach computer programming skills to middle school and high school students.

The Santa Clara, Calif., bank is donating low-cost tablets to the Level Playing Field Institute and Virginia Advanced Study Strategies to promote science, technology, engineering and math education, known collectively as the STEM fields, at the events.

"We need to create a tech-savvy, highly skilled workforce to fuel innovation in America," said Greg Becker, Silicon Valley Bank's president and chief executive, in a press release.

The Level the Coding Field Hackathon will take place in Mountain View, Calif. this month. The Computer Coding Competition in Virginia will culminate in January with a recognition ceremony where graduates will be awarded a Datawind Ubislate 3G Tablet.
