Datacard to Buy Security Provider Entrust

Thoma Bravo LLC, a private equity investment firm, announced Tuesday its sale of Entrust, a digital identity and information company, to Datacard Group.

Terms of the deal, expected to close yearend, weren't disclosed.

Datacard is a plastic-card printing supplier to banks and other companies. JPMorgan Chase uses Datacard's technology to make its instant-issue cards available.

Thoma Bravo made headlines in Twittersphere in recent weeks for its quick flip of Digital Insight.

Unlike the digital banking services company, Entrust had four years with Thoma Bravo. Under its supervision since July 2009, Thoma Bravo said it transformed Entrust into a software-as-a-service company.

"We were able to leverage the firm's metrics and experience to bring about a transformation of software authentication to mobile devices and the cloud," said Entrust CEO Bill Conner in a release.
