SunTrust Corporate Banking Unit Expands to Boston

A unit of Sun Trust Banks (STI) has opened a corporate and investment banking office in Boston.

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey said in a press release Tuesday that it had hired Greg Badger to lead the office's new Northeast corporate banking group. Badger was previously a managing director for global commercial banking at Bank of America (BAC). He also led Bank of America's corporate investment unit for media companies and professional sports organizations.

Badger "is highly regarded throughout New England, and very well positioned to build and lead our corporate banking team in the Northeast," Brian Peters, head of national corporate banking, said in a press release, adding that the move validates SunTrust's "national expansion strategy."

The announcement follows a string of recent market expansions for the bank, which last month purchased Lantana Oil & Gas Partners, an oil and gas advisory firm in Houston, Texas. It also opened offices in Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco late last year.

SunTrust Banks, Inc. has $171 billion in assets and is based in Atlanta, Ga.
