Cardlytics Inc. and ClairMail Inc. have announced a partnership to enable financial institutions to deliver coupons and other merchant offers to customers’ mobile phones, Atlanta-based Cardlytics reported on Dec. 7.

Cardlytics is adding the mobile feature to its existing merchant-funded statement rewards programs, which enable participants to receive cash back on specific merchant-promoted offers (see story).

The transaction-marketing company will use San Rafael, Calif.-based ClairMail’s mobile-banking platform to deliver targeted merchant offers directly to a bank’s customers based on their historic use of the institution’s credit, debit or prepaid cards, Cardlytics noted in a recent news release.

Cardlytics tracks transaction histories through its proprietary system, which is tied to a bank’s Internet-banking service, to place merchant offers based on relevant transaction data, a spokesperson from Cardlytics tells PaymentsSource. The process is secure, and a customer’s data never leaves the bank, he adds.

Consumers may receive the offers immediately through text message, a mobile application or mobile Web banners.
