Community Trust in Louisiana Changes Name to Origin Bank

Community Trust Bank in Choudrant, La., has changed its name to Origin Bank.

The $3.8 billion-asset company sought a name that it could trademark, according to a Friday news release.

"It was a strategic decision to differentiate our brand," Chief Executive Drake Mills said in the release, noting that the change was not due to a merger or acquisition.

"There are a number of banks with 'community' or 'trust' in their names," Mills said. "Origin is now a name we can trademark and distinctly call our own."

The bank was founded in 1912 and operates 44 branches in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Its holding company is Community Trust Financial in Ruston, La.
