First National Bank Alaska Names Lawer Chairwoman

First National Bank Alaska in Anchorage has appointed Betsy Lawer as chairwoman.

Lawer succeeds her father, D.H. Cuddy, as chair of the $3.4 billion-asset company. Cuddy died on May 12 at age 94. She was unanimously elected chairwoman this week.

Lawer, the oldest of Cuddy's children, had previously been vice chairwoman. She will also retain the position of president.

Lawer has worked at First National Bank Alaska since 1974, in commercial lending, investor loan production, bank operations, electronic data processing and marketing. Lawer is also a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

In 2010, Lawer was named one of 25 Women to Watch by American Banker Magazine.
