Citizens Financial Names Former N.Y. Fed Exec to Board

Citizens Financial Group in Providence, R.I., has named Christine Cumming, a former Federal Reserve Bank of New York executive, to its board.

The $137 billion-asset Citizens said Cumming will become a director on Oct. 1, according to a news release Tuesday. Citizens expanded its board to 13 members from 12 to add Cumming.

Cumming is a former chief operating officer at the New York Fed, the second-highest ranking officer at the institution. Cumming was also first vice president before she retired in June, a position she had held since 2004.

"Christine has a broad background in risk management, payments, technology, monetary policy and bank supervision," Bruce Van Saun, Citizens' chairman and chief executive, said in the release.

While at the New York Fed, Cumming was a member of the management committee and was an alternate voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee. She had worked at the New York Fed for about 35 years.

Among Cumming's recent work projects at the New York Fed was the implementation of a risk management program; the modernization of the Fedwire program, a gross settlement funds transfer system; and establishment of its Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
