Citizens in R.I. Taps PNC Exec to Oversee Tech

Citizens Financial Group in Providence, R.I., has named Mary Ellen Baker head of business services.

Baker, who was previously executive vice president of PNC Financial's enterprise services, will replace David Bowerman at the $140.1 billion-asset Citizens beginning Aug. 8, the company said Monday.

As head of business services, Baker will oversee the technology, operations, information and corporate security, property services, vendor management and change management functions.

Before arriving at PNC, Baker worked at Bank of America as head of enterprise resiliency and corporate services as well as head of technology and operations for the consumer and small-business bank.

"Mary Ellen is exceptionally qualified to lead our technology, operations and corporate services areas as we work towards our goal of making Citizens a top-performing regional bank," Bruce Van Saun, chairman and chief executive of Citizens, said in a news release.

The company added that Bowerman will relocate to the U.K. after 34 years with Royal Bank of Scotland, which previously owned Citizens. It sold the U.S. unit to improve its capital ratios and focus more on the U.K. through a series of stock sales. It completed its divestiture late last year.
