New community banking president named at MetaBank

MetaBank in Sioux Falls, S.D., has promoted a longtime employee to the newly created position of community banking president.

Kathy Thorson, who currently serves as president of the Sioux Empire market, will now oversee business strategy for all four of Meta’s markets, the $4.3 billion-asset company said Thursday. Meta has 10 branches in Iowa and South Dakota.

Thorson will also retain her current title and responsibilities. She has been with Meta for 17 years and became its first female president in the Sioux Falls area.

“Kathy has been a tremendous contributor to the success of MetaBank since she started with us in 2001,” J. Tyler Haahr, Meta’s chairman and CEO, said in a press release. “She has consistently been a top performer in the company and helped us become one of the most profitable banks in the state.”
