Fremont, Calif.-based Patelco Credit Union has become the first financial institution in the U.S. to launch Mobile Popmoney, which will enable Patelco's members to send an electronic payment directly to another person via an e-mail or text message from their mobile phone.

The Popmoney P2P Payments solution is being offered in conjunction with CashEdge and MShift via the MShift Mobile Banking Platform. The service is fully integrated into Patelco's mobile banking platform.

"Ten years ago, Patelco represented the first mobile banking deployment of any financial institution in the United States, and I'm proud to say Patelco was also the first mobile banking deployment in the USA using MShift technology," said Patelco CEO Scott Moeller.
