Rebranding at BB&T Insurance spurred by pending deal

BB&T Insurance Services is undergoing a rebranding.

The retail broker will change its name to McGriff Insurance Services later this month, BB&T Insurance Holdings said Monday. The new name is inspired by an affiliate McGriff, Seibels & Williams, which provides property and casualty insurance, employee benefits and life and pension plans.

BB&T Insurance agreed in April to buy Regions Financial’s insurance business. That deal, which is expected to close early in the third quarter, made the timing right for the rebranding, David Pruett, vice chairman and CEO of BB&T Insurance Services, said in a press release. Regions has 31 offices across the Southeast, Texas and Indiana.

Pruett was not available to provide additional comment on the name change.

Pruett said in the press release that the combined company will “have even greater client-facing resources and industry knowledge under a single united brand that is recognized and respected by the insurance industry and clients.”

BB&T Insurance Services of California and BridgeTrust Title are not included in the rebranding.

BB&T Insurance Holdings, a unit of the $220.7 billion-asset BB&T Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C., has more than 200 offices through its various divisions. It is the fifth-largest insurance broker in the U.S.
